Over at RightWisconsin, I actually second-guessed my column that appeared in today’s Waukesha Freeman. Maybe Americans want a jerk to be president.
There’s no denying Trump is a complete jerk. Oh, there’s another word to describe Trump, but this is a relatively family-friendly website. We’ll settle for jerk, “an unlikable person; especially : one who is cruel, rude, or small-minded” according to Merriam-Webster. If there was any doubt, Trump erased it with his obnoxious attack on Senator John McCain. But even before that, Trump’s childish, sometimes incomprehensible, personal insults of other public figures has made him a well-established jerk. When your television tagline is, “you’re fired,” you’re a complete jerk. And yet, defying political gravity, there Trump is, leading the polls. He’s center-stage in Cleveland tonight, and everyone is waiting to hear what obnoxious remark will come out of his mouth this time. What we’ll also want to know is whether being a jerk causes his poll numbers to go up even higher.
